Sharda Sinha

Sharda Sinha was an Indian folk and classical singer.
  • She was born on October 1, 1952, in Hulas, Raghopur, Supaul district, Bihar.
  • Sharda Sinha was a popular singer from Bihar.
  • Her father, Sukhdev Thakur, was an officer in the Education Department of the Bihar government.
  • She sang in Maithili, Bajjika, Bhojpuri, as well as Hindi songs. Songs sung by her in films like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, and Gangs of Wasseypur became very popular.
  • Due to her contributions to folk music, she is also known as the "Bihar-Kokila" (Nightingale of Bihar).
  • Sharda Sinha gained fame particularly for her songs associated with the Chhath festival.
  • She began her career with All India Radio and Doordarshan.
  • She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Padma Bhushan in 2018.
  • Sharda Sinha started her career by singing Maithili folk songs.
